At SoupClub we offer a straight forward approach to things. We know that there is a target 5-a-day fresh fruit/vegetables and we know we should eat a balaced diet and exercise effectively. We aren't nutritional experts and we don't claim to be but we know that if you eat the right foods in the right volumes you will be better for it.
According to the British Nutrition Foundation "To lose weight, the energy intake from food must be less than the energy output". This is why calorie counting is the most effective weight loss method. It goes straight to the heart of the problem.
So, by consuming fewer calories your weight should go down and by consuming more calories then you weight should go up! Sensibly lowering your fat and calorie intake is good for you as is increasing your consumption of fresh vegetables - that's what we help you with when you join Soup Club. If you need dietary or nutritional advice you should contact your GP. Where we come in is that we'll help eat more healthily by delivering to you fresh, low fat/low calorie, healthy soups, stews and blended vegetable drinks. Remember - there are no short cuts, it's about what food you eat, the quantity and amount of exercise that you do. So, when you consider that a 300 ml bowl of our fresh soup has about the same number of calories as a quarter of a British sausage and a tenth of a typical office lunch (a round of sandwiches and a packet of crisps) it becomes clear that if you consume less calories than your body burns in a period then you will lose weight. Conversely, if you consume more calories than your body burns then the liklihood is that you will not lose weight. Below is some very general information that will help you understand how calories can effect you (without exercise)*:
Male, 6ft Tall, 15 Stones
Aged 30 needs 2882 calories per day to maintain that weight. If the intake were to be reduced to 2382 per day then after 14 weeks he would lose one stone.
Aged 40 needs 2786 calories per day to maintain that weight. If the intake were to be reduced to 2286 per day then after 14 weeks he would lose one stone.
Female, 5ft Tall, 11 Stones
Aged 30 needs 1908 calories per day to maintain that weight. If the intake were to be reduced to 1408 per day then after 14 weeks she would lose one stone.
Aged 40 needs 1839 calories per day to maintain that weight. If the intake were to be reduced to 1339 per day then after 14 weeks she would lose one stone.
If you were to combine the above with exercise then you could either up your calorie intake to achieve the same result or make move progess with your weight loss efforts. Please remember that these calorie counts are just guides to help you understand the effects of calorie intake, you may need to adjust your calorie needs up or down slightly to get the results you want as part of a well balanced diet. Remember, be sensible about what you eat - calorie intakes does not just come from the main meals but also:
- snacks
- sweets
- fizzy/soft drinks
- alcohol
- full fat milk (cappuccinos and lattes)
So, if you consume our soups to aid weight loss there would be no real gain from eating them with a bag of chips or a loaf of bread! Remember - eat the right foods, in a sensible manner, that lower you daily calorie intake and you will be taking sensible approach to your eating lifestyle. * - free information gained from About, Inc., A part of The New York Times Company. |
